It's the day after Thanksgiving and after reading my neice's blog: http://sibtigre2.blogspot.com/ listing what she is thankful for......well, a day late and a pound short, what can I say? As they don't celebrate it over here I may have an excuse.......or not. Suffice to say I am blessed with family and friends (human and animal) and a new country. It would take a lifetime to list it all. I am one lucky gal.
So, yes, Thanksgiving! I had to make do with saying "Happy Thanksgiving" to all who crossed my path yesterday. I even cut out pictures of pilgrims and turkeys and a cornucopia which I taped to the filing cabinets and offered up a chocolate orange ball (the kind that splits into slices) as I am thankful for chocolate! I got strange looks but hey, I am proud of our traditions! I had to explain to everyone what it was all about and sent internet links around the office showing it off. I was going to cook a meal at home but as there is so much going on, I settled for a drink at the Red Lion pub in the village of Drayton next to us on the high road. Next year will be different!
Before I forget, I will post more pics of our vacation at a later date.
Last night we had our memory foam bed delivered! It feels too incredibly fab to describe! The cat likes it so I know it's a good choice. We've also ordered bar stools, carpet, blinds, and a couch and feel as if we are finally coming along. Roger pushes himself to the nth degree which is not good, but he is bound and determined to get things done come hell or high water.
Oh - my big purchase of the month is a pair of new used (3 times) riding boots for £8.00! That's like $14.00. Now all I need is the horse.
Well, I better leave my witty comments here and pretend I have a job. Lunch is over, sad but true. Wishing you all the fun of the shopping season - let the games begin!
Ta rah,

Well, as promised - here are photos of our San Francisco portion of our vacation, albeit a little late. I've chosen a few artsy-type pictures and just one of the many sites we visited. Our wonderful tour guide, my friend Verna, San Franciscoite extroadonaire, accompianed us on most occasions. Since I haven't quite got the knack of commenting next to the individual pictures, I'll just point out that the first San Francisco view is one of Lombard St. - infamous for it's crookedness; the next is Roger in jail on Alcatraz rock, followed by a horrendous picture of Verna and I on an amazingly cold evening in China Town, thus my red nose and new blue jacket bought just that evening in an effort to stay warm! One day Roger and I ventured to Haight Ashbury and found these interesting pair of legs hanging out the window. The others are self-explanatory and suffice to say we had a great time. Now, as stated earlier, not having the hang of editing photos on this page yet, you will find beautiful atumunal (Roger's word again) photos of the season! These are taken on the UEA campus where we both work, and although not in any logical order, it gives an idea of the colors we see every day. It is just breath taking.
So....this month has seen the ongoing remodel of the house step up a notch. Not only do we now have heat - yes I said heat! - we also have a new refrigerator, bought a new bed, ordered carpet, knocked a wall out and plastered, tiled the bathroom anew, added new units to both kitchen and bathroom and painted the living room walls and had electrics re-done. Roger has done the majority of it with the plastering, tiling and some electrics being done by outside sources. Oh yes, we also have cool kitchen lights he put up . Now, this might not seem like much in the scheme of things, but to us it is a major break-through after a year of living in the stone age! We are still cooking on Roger's camp stove but it is the gift that keeps on giving so I am well-pleased.
One more interesting thing that happened this month: we attended a talk on the U.S. servicemen who were stationed here during WWll - my dad was one of them. By chance I met a man who had a photo album of the plane my dad used to work on then, called the Lemon Drop. He also had a picture of all the engineers. Roger took a photo of the photo and when we returned home, he blew it up on the computer and - ta da! - there is my dad in the middle top back row!! So as I attempt to add this photo to the page it will no doubt be the first one you see. It was a very emotional moment for me.
At this point I need to suss out (another English term for figure out something) what is to be for dinner. Today sees me home ill but on the mend as I am, obviously, able to spend time on this blog. Thanks for all your positive comments, and "I'll be seeing you" (to quote a war time song).
Jill
