Happy New Year Campers!
Yep, 2008 has arrived. Let's hope I will do better at keeping this blog up to date!
Had a great Xmas. Kellan visited us and we enjoyed the typical English celebrations. Christmas Day we spent at Roger's parent's. This year was fab as his sister and her boyfriend were with us. They have moved back here from Antigua and have a house in an area called Poringland. The first and only time when we were all togther for Xmas (minus Kellan of course) before was in 1979! The day after Xmas, Boxing Day, we had everyone over to our's for a buffet style meal and drinks. That's what I love about England, as well as having 10 days off from the University, they have an extra day to recouperate from the festivities! New Years was great - we had a party and invited all the neighbors. They all appreciated not having to drink and drive....not that they drink a lot anyway as the majority of the neighbors are retirees! We had a lot of fun dancing, doing the Hokey Pokey (or Hokey Kokie as it's known here), Charades, and doing the train throughout the house, so a good time seemed to be had by all! Kellan enjoyed himself a little too much New Year's Eve....I told him I never thought I'd get the chance to tuck him into bed again. His parting gift to me was a cold which he endured for most of his visit. He coped by playing video games for 8 hours a day! I personally enjoyed having 3 days off with mine.
So it's back to work and life in general now. We have finished our bedroom, so safe to say the house is completed, except for the back yard which will be done sometime next month.
I am figuring out where our next vacation should be. I'm like a kid in a candy store living so close to the main European continent. We had thought about going to Amsterdam for a long weekend, but as the flight is cheap and quick, the hotels are very expensive. I had wanted to see the tulips in bloom. Haven't decided against it yet, just looking at other options.
My brother and his wife will visit us the end of September, at least that's the plan. Will be great to have them! I look forward to showing them around and of course, the infamous English pubs! In March, we may have friends from Colorado joining us at Easter time. We get a week off for Easter (thank you UEA!) so that will work out perfectly.
Roger is out fishing today. It's cold and gloomy which he says is the perfect weather for certain fish. Last Sunday he went pike fishing and one of them bit his thumb!! He ended up going to the doctor who said it was a first for them. A 3-in-one shot and a bandaid later he was still sporting a purple thumb. I should've taken a photo with my new digital camera that I got for Xmas but didn't think of it in time. Darn!
Hey, another word to add to my list that is pronounced differently over here is "contractor". We would say CONtractor. Here they say conTRACtor. Just thought I'd mention it.
Watched a good movie last night called "Vacancy". Had us hanging off our chairs!
So, that's all I can think of at this time. Happy New Year to every one!
More to come!
